Lockdowns, mask mandates, business closures and distance learning.

After all that, you can understand why the varsity boys soccer teams at Clackamas County's 11 high schools are ready to get their kicks in 2021. That group includes returning league champions from Lake Oswego and Putnam.

Three Rivers League

Lake Oswego

Head coach: Fraser Morrison

2020-21 record: 4-0-2 in Three Rivers League play, 4-4-2 overall

2021 outlook: "(This will be) a rebuilding year after graduating a talented senior class last season. If we can establish some consistency and stay clear of injuries, we'll be in with a shout." — Frasier Morrison

League contenders: West Linn, Lakeridge, Tualatin, Tigard

Top players: Senior Alonso Eghdami, junior Luc Scipio del Campo, junior Adam Robertson, senior Brennan Baker, sophomore Evan Huber

2020-21 record: 4-1-1 in Three Rivers League play, 5-5-1 overall 

2021 outlook: "This is a hardworking, committed group of boys. We're eager to get the season underway and will take each game as it comes." — Alan Cox

Oregon City

Head coach: Edgar Mora Mendoza

2020-21 record: 1-5 in Three Rivers League play, 2-8-0 overall

2021 outlook: "I believe that if we can continue to work as unit and take advantage of the errors made by our competitors, we can have a great season and (earn a) place in playoffs. We will depend on our seniors to show that leadership and pull everyone together and show that Oregon City is a top contender in league." — Edgar Mora Mendoza

West Linn

Head coach: Steve Ancheta

2020-21 record: 2-2-2 TRL, 4-3-4 overall

2021 outlook: "We are very excited to go out and compete against the teams in are league with a solid core of seniors this fall. I know the team has set some high goals for this season and I believe if we play up to are capabilities we can challenge to win on the day." — Steve Ancheta

Mt. Hood Conference


Head coach: Thomas Kean

2020-21 record: 5-1-0 in Mt. Hood Conference play, 9-2-0 overall

2021 outlook: "(It's a) completely new team that will have to learn quickly in order to make playoffs, but has the talent to do so." — Thomas Kean

League contenders: Centennial, Central Catholic, Gresham

2020-21 record: N/A (first-year team)

2021 outlook: "This will be a building year for the … boys soccer program. If the players buy into the program, we will rebuild quickly." — Lisa Harings

Top players: "Our team is entering the 6A Mt. Hood Conference without seniors. We have multiple players that are working to step into the captain position." 

Northwest Oregon Conference

La Salle

Head coach: Monty Hawkins

2020-21 record: 5-1-1 in Northwest Oregon Conference play, 7-2-2 overall

2021 outlook: "As the defending 5A state champions (2019), the current squad have set their sights on another title run. They will be led by an experienced and talented 11-member senior class in their quest for back-to-back titles." — Monty Hawkins

League contenders: La Salle, Wilsonville, Hillsboro, Putnam

2020-21 record: 6-1-1 in Northwest Oregon Conference play, 6-2-1 overall

2021 outlook: "For 2021, I believe Putnam is the team to beat for league. We have a tough preseason schedule that will help prepare us to defend league this year. … Win or lose, this team is full of great kids and we also look to finish top of the league in overall GPA." — David Strohl

Head coach: Ian Reschke

2020-21 record: 4-2-1 in Northwest Oregon Conference play, 5-3-3 overall

2021 outlook: "We have a good core of returning players which will provide a solid defensive structure. If we can find our scoring touch, we should be able to compete in every game." — Ian Reschke

2021 outlook: "We're looking to bounce back after our rough spring session. We're going to lean heavily on our three seniors for leadership and plan on battling for a playoff spot coming out of the toughest 4A conference." — Ryan Hardwick
