Schools release early next week

West Linn-Wilsonville schools will release students early on Oct. 30 as teachers spend the afternoon on professional development activities. Contact your child’s school for information about release time and bus schedules.

Attend WHS Latino Family Night

Wilsonville High School will host its annual Latino Family Night Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Pointe. This evening is presented to Latino families in Spanish and English. Agenda items include graduation requirements, tips for student success, athletics, activities, arts, and how to communicate with teachers and administrators at WHS. All Spanish-speaking families are encouraged to attend.

Attend Athey Idol

Thirty-two talented middle schoolers will take to the stage at Athey Creek Middle School Oct. 25 when the school hosts the tenth annual Athey Idol benefit concert. Modeled after the popular television show, “American Idol,” Athey’s version serves a dual purpose: to provide performance opportunities for Athey students and to raise money for teh choir and drama programs. Tickets cost $7.50 and are available through the school’s website and at the door the night of the show. Athey Creek Middle School is located at 2900 SW Borland Road in Tualatin.

Treats for BFPS students

October 25 is Trick or Treat night for the students of Boones Ferry Primary School. Sponsored by the Parents and Staff for Students group, the event will feature a bounce house, monster mash, photo booth and prize walk. Costumed students can trick-or-treat at the school from 6 to 7 p.m. A teacher costume contest will begin at 7:10 p.m., and the event will end at 7:30 p.m.

Update FlashAlert subscriptions

With winter weather around the corner, now is a good time to check on your subscriptions to FlashAlert, the system the school district uses to give parents information about school closures.

As part of a routine cleanup, many addresses were removed from the FlashAlert system earlier this fall. Access the system at to check on the status of your subscriptions. Use the Subscribe button or the Manage My Existing Subscriptions link. You can also access the FlashAlert system from the district website at using the Inclement Weather link. A app for Android and iPhones is availabe; it will prove a more stable notification than traditional text messages to your phone.
