Echoing words of thanks
When Thanksgiving rolls around, excitement amongst students heightens — no school, families plan vacations or gatherings, and teachers might even ease up on homework. But this time of year also provides a moment to reflect on what there is to be grateful for.
This holiday season, Wilsonville Spokesman staff asked students at Lowrie and Boeckman Creek primary schools to complete the sentence, "I am thankful for.." Below are their answers:
"My house, my brother and my sister. I mean, my family."
— Hannah Withers, kindergarten
"People who make music because they have good music. I don't really know what the name is, basically it has beats. It makes me want to dance."
— Ali Azizi, first grade
"Thanksgiving because it's a time you can spend with your families. I have three brothers, two are younger, one is older."
— James Gaspar, second grade
"Being able to come to this school because I usually don't get this lucky with going to certain schools like this. What makes this school special is there are different types of teachers that help out lots of different types of kids."
— Elliette Towne, third grade
"My family and my friends because they always support me (and) sports — basketball and baseball — because they make me feel excited."
"My family and my teachers because they take care of me and my teachers help me learn."
— Ailani Rodriguez, fifth grade
"For my friends and family because they are always there to help me through hard times, especially for my mom because she gave birth to me and took care of me when I was a baby."
— James Lee, fifth grade
"My friends and family because my friends, they always help me if I need advice. I'm thankful for my two dogs and my cat because they're just loving and I like to snuggle them."
— Raina Simonton, fifth grade
"My house because without it I'd probably be homeless, and my family because they're always there for me and they love me and I love them back. I'm thankful for my cat because he always knows how to cheer me up."
— Logan Stelle, fifth grade
"My family because they take care of me whenever I'm down and they cuddle with me when I don't feel OK. Friends because they're fun to play with and they're always there by your side when you need help."
— Rio Fernandez, fifth grade
"Clothes and I'm thankful for being (able) to go to school (and) having a home because most people don't have those and other people don't get the same education, so that's why I'm thankful for it."
— Daenon Herrera, fifth grade
