Positions open for the WL-WV Budget Committee, Oregon Tech increases enrollment and more

Positions open for Budget Committee

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District has two three-year positions on the Budget Committee that will need to be filled for the 2019-20 budget year. Position No. 1 and Position No. 4 both expired June 30.

Notice will be given to the public for community citizens to apply in the coming weeks. The board will interview applicants and take action at the Feb. 4, 2019 board meeting.

Oregon Tech increases enrollment

Both Klamath Falls and Portland-Metro Oregon Institute of Technology campuses have gained students in the last year — most notable being the increase in students of color and first-time freshmen enrollment at Oregon Tech, increased by 9 percent from fall 2017. The headcount at the Klamath Falls campus is up from 2,182 students last year to 2,218 students this year and enrollment at Oregon Tech's Portland-Metro campus is up to 870 this fall from last year's 827 students. Compared to last year, Oregon Tech's Online Education Program experienced a 15 percent growth in student credit hours. There is also a steady 80 percent retention rate at Oregon Tech.

Take a book, leave a book

Wilsonville's Clackamas Community College staff created a "Little Library" for its campus. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires reading and building community by fostering book exchanges around the world. The idea behind the outdoor compartments that hold books is that if a community member takes a book, they will leave one behind. Wilsonville volunteers commissioned artwork for the campus's Little Library that is now available to the public.
