School board OKs purchase of 5.2 acres
At the Feb. 25 meeting, the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board approved the $1,055,000 purchase of 5.21 acres adjacent to Stafford Primary School, Athey Creek Middle School and the district operations center.
The board had been considering the deal for the past three months, assessing the land's use to the district and consulting with financial advisers to decide upon an agreeable price.
The site initially was listed for $1.49 million, but through negotiation, the district was able to bring the price down. The additional land will enhance the overall usability of the district's property on Stafford Road. It also will make utility installations, vehicular access and parking easier for the entire site and will allow room for future utility installations, according to the district.
The district eventually hopes to turn Athey Creek into an expanded version of Arts and Technology High School, accommodating up to 500 students. The new land would give district developers more room to work with.
The deal is expected to officially close in June after a 75-day due diligence period.
