A 'Thank you' to school staff
In an effort to support educators and school staff, Fred Meyer has launched a new discount on select items through September.
Every Wednesday from July 10 through Sept. 11, Fred Meyer stores across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska will offer a 10% discount off products including school supplies, electronics, housewares, toys, furniture, private brand food like Simple Truth and Koger brands and more.
"We know that we appreciate our teachers and we appreciate our educators. We realize that we have an opportunity where we can make a difference for them," said Jeffery Temple, director of corporate affairs for Fred Meyer stores. "We are excited to get it launched and rolled out."
Temple added that it's known teachers spend their own money in the classroom, which affects their home life and family as well, so Fred Meyer offers the discount to items that benefit the whole family, not just the students sitting in the classroom.
"We know that every little bit helps and we have educators throughout all our communities that give us their all to educate our children," he said.
To receive the discount for Teacher Appreciation Wednesdays, school staff must show a school ID or a credential when checking out at the register.
Temple reminds the community that it's not just teachers or school administrators that can benefit from this sale, anyone who works in the school system from college educators to home school teachers are eligible as well.
"We are trying to keep this as broad as we can," he said.
Fred Meyer customers can shop July 10, 17, 24, 31; Aug. 14, 21, 28 and Sept. 4 and 11 to save money on store-bought goods.
The sale excludes purchases such as cosmetics, alcohol, candy, pet items, Nike and food sold by the pound in the Produce, Deli, Bakery and Meat and Seafood Departments. The special offer cannot be combined with any other percentage-off offers.
Depending on the success of the Teacher Appreciate Wednesdays, Temple said Fred Meyer would like to continue the temporary sale in the future, though no plans have been made yet.
"We appreciate the service teachers provide educating the children of our community, so we are excited to offer Teacher Appreciation Wednesdays as a 'Thank you' for all that they do," said Dennis Gibson, president of Fred Meyer stores, in a press release July 8. "We designed this program to be an easy way for all school district employees to save on items for their homes, families and classrooms."
