'Tis the season for giving
Every year, Arts and Technology High School in Wilsonville celebrates the holidays with a luncheon and the gift of new cozy blankets for students. Like most events this year, the luncheon tradition needed altering.
The high school hosted a drive-thru holiday event Tuesday, Dec. 15, instead.
"It's kind of an adaptation of something we would normally be doing around the holiday time," principal Saskia Dresler said. "The luncheon is a really special time."
Dressler said the event highlights every student's talents and includes a slideshow featuring the entire student body.
Moving the event to a drive-thru model and forgoing the food wasn't ideal, but Dresler said it was still meaningful because many teachers hadn't seen students in person all year.
That evening, staff gave out holiday gifts to students and younger siblings.
Dresler said the school has a donation fund where monetary gifts from parents and local businesses go to finance events like this one.
She said when the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club disbanded a few years ago, due to low membership, they distributed their funds throughout the community and Arts and Technology High School was one of the beneficiaries.
"We're really, really grateful to the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club," Dresler said.
