West Linn-Wilsonville School District bond projects progress
As the year starts anew, West Linn-Wilsonville School District staff will move forward with projects funded by the $206.8 million capital bond, which voters approved last November.
The project list includes the following:
Addition and renovation at Wilsonville High School
Wilsonville High School will have a new 600-person auditorium, additional parking, synthetic turf softball fields and energy-efficient lighting upgrades. WHS improvements also include a renovation of the current auditorium and black box theater, classroom upgrades and improved safety and security.
A design committee comprised of community members and district and school leadership met regularly, according to a district report, and the first round of community focus groups has been completed. Next, the bond staff plans to host another round of focus groups and then complete the Conditional Use Permit application.
Construction is expected for early 2022 through summer 2023.
New middle school at Dollar Street property
A new 850-student middle school at the district's 22-acre Dollar Street property in West Linn will replace Athey Creek Middle School, as Athey Creek is being transformed into the third-option high school.
Focus groups including staff and students have discussed some aspects of the project. As it stands, the project is still in the design phase. The district plans to complete the land use application in early 2021.
Construction for this project is expected for early 2022 through summer 2023.
Third option high school
Renovations for the third-option high school in West Linn include improvements to offices and classroom spaces, mechanical, electric and plumbing upgrades, as well as a roof replacement and kitchen upgrades.
Student and staff focus groups met to discuss the project and the land use application has been submitted to Clackamas County. Construction for this project is expected for summer 2021 through summer 2023.
Stadium and parking at West Linn High School
This project includes additional stadium seating and parking to accommodate future student body gatherings. The sports field will also get energy efficient lighting upgrades.
This project will add an estimated 113 new parking spaces to the high school.
Construction is expected to begin this spring.
New primary school
This project, which is not expected to be complete until 2024, will be a new starter primary school at the district's Frog Pond site in Wilsonville.
The project is pushed out because enrollment projections show Wilsonville won't actually need a new primary school for several years.
Design is set to start in the New Year.
