by: SPOKESMAN FILE PHOTO: JOSH KULLA - Find out more about local history at pioneer cemeteries with Champoeg State Park on June 21. This photo shows the Pleasant View pioneer cemetery outside Wilsonville, which is representative of the Butteville and St. Paul cemeteries that are part of the tour. The Champoeg State Heritage Area will host Cemetery Sagas for the Summer Solstice from 3 to 5 p.m. June 21, at the park, located at 8239 Champoeg Road NE, St. Paul.

Times are dependent on number of tours based on number of reservations. Individuals from the historic Champoeg era will be portrayed by costumed actors, while the theme for this year’s fundraiser is “Healing on the French Prairie” with vignettes highlighting experiences related to pioneer health and healing.

The tour by bus leaves from the Champoeg State Heritage Area Visitor’s Center and visits cemeteries at Butteville and St. Paul, where multiple “persons” appear at each location. The 90-minute tour ends with strawberry shortcake served in the restored Donald Manson 1860’s barn at Champoeg Park. Event fee: $20 per person, general public

Pre-paid Reservations required. Call 503-678-1251, Ext. 221 after June 1. A $5 vehicle parking fee or annual state parks pass is required.
